Ancient History

August 15 is an auspicious date. Consider the following.

On this day in history:

The Panama Canal opens
WWII ends
India's independence from Britain
Congo's independence from France
Beatles play to 60,000 in Shea Stadium
Woodstock opens
Celebration of the Feast of the Assumption

It is also the birthdays of Napoleon, Sir Walter Scott, and Ben Affleck.
That is truly magical.

But the most magical thing about August 15th, was that on this day in 1998, the storm clouds parted, the raging seas subsided, the planets and cosmos aligned, the lion and the lamb curled up together, and Matthew Braun made the smartest decision of his life.

He married me.
[Cue organ music and the heavenly seraphim's chorus]

Happy 10th anniversary, Matty. You lucky duck, you.

I'm all set for my enormous bouquet of flowers, diamond earrings, and first-class ticket to Paris.

Or maybe I'll just settle for a nice steak dinner.

SEE HOW LUCKY YOU ARE?
