Newberry Medal

The Newberry Medal is the Oscar trophy of the children's literature world, and the winner was announced today.

It was Neil Gaiman!

I posted a Neil Gaiman quote about a month ago (one of my favorites):

"You can know anything. It's all there. You just have to find it."

Neil Gaiman, if you are not familiar, has written many novels and comic stories, his most famous being Sandman. He also wrote American Gods and Stardust, which was made into a movie a few years ago. His latest film out is Coraline, and the book he won the Newberry Medal for is called The Graveyard Book.

The other thing about Neil Gaiman is though he was born and grew up in England, he now lives in the Twin Cities area. There is a large poster of him in the copy room of my office, so also I see him everyday at work.

Maybe someday I will have my own poster. Hmmmm.....we'll see.

I read American Gods a while ago and I think I'm going to hit the library and see how many of his books I can find. I'm betting now that we will be getting quite a few requests for his stuff. This happens every time a National book award, a Pulitizer prize, a Booker prize, a Nobel prize, or an Oprah book is announced.

Or a Newberry Award.

He's a talented guy so I'm not surprised he took home yet another award.
